Security and privacy of my camera videos and data in my YI/Kami Home app?
How is my personal information secured?
All requests between the camera, mobile phones, and server is over an encrypted HTTPS using TLS1.2. This uses a two-way mutual authentication process to ensure that the user's personal information is secure during transport and can not be compromised. Each device has its own key and certificate to authenticate with the server.
How does Kami protect my Live Stream and Event videos?
We use Bank-Grade encryption for your user information and video streams to ensure utmost security. We use an encrypted P2P channel for video transmission to ensure that only the end-user can view the video content. Any possible interception happening during the transmission of information will only see scrambled and encrypted data.
Camera video data is stored in the cloud with a Bank-Grade encryption algorithm with periodically rotated encryption keys so you can rest assured while using it. At the same time, through independent research and development, we provide mass data guarantees with high reliability, multiple backup, second-level recovery, on-demand automatic expansion, flexibility, convenience, and stability.
How can I choose a safe password?
Creating a strong password is the first line of defense while you’re registering (or updating) your Kami or Yi Home account. We recommend a password with a combination of uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols. You can also use a password management tool to help use unique passwords for different websites and accounts.
When choosing a password, avoid using personal information like birthdays, first and last names, and well-known words or phrases from movies, shows, books, or music. Sequenced numbers (12345) and letters (abcde) are also easier for hackers to crack, so avoid using these as well. Change your password often, but be sure that it’s unique and not recycled.
How can I add extra security to my camera feed?
You can also set a 4 digit pin for your camera feeds to prevent others from accessing it. Once a pin is set, you also have the capability to enable Biometric access.
What type of data do our servers collect?
We collect 3 kinds of data listed below:
- Operation information (non-video): Such information is used solely to improve the quality of our services. We have strict rules and procedures to protect this type of information and take security measures to protect them.
- Relay: The primary mode of video transmission from our camera to our mobile device is through a peer-to-peer connection. The Yi Home Camera may opt to relay videos through our servers to the mobile device to achieve an optimal viewing experience when encountering unpredictable network conditions. On such occasions, both videos and the transmission channel are securely encrypted. The server's role is to only act as a relay agent and not store video content transmitted to or through them.
- Activity Alert videos: Activity Alert videos are generated when Smart Detections are enabled. When an alert occurs, an alert video is sent through an encrypted transmission channel, and the activity alert videos are individually encrypted for storage. These encrypted activity alert videos will be automatically deleted regularly, depending on your subscription plan. The camera would not generate the Alert videos unless the user manually activates the "smart detection" functionality in the mobile app. The control is in the user's hand, so if you don't feel secure transmitting the videos, do not activate this feature. The camera is fully functional without having this feature enabled.
Should I share my Kami account with my family and friends?
Never share your Kami Home or Yi Home app credentials with anyone you do not completely trust.
Instead, ask your family and friends to create an account in the Kami Home or Yi Home app so you can share devices with them without compromising your login credentials. For more info on the sharing feature, see this article: Sharing Your Camera with Family and Friends
